Assumptionist Priest, Religious Pioneer and Academic Authority

Father Jean-Chrysostome Kanyororo Kisali is an emblematic figure of the Catholic Church and the academic world in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A member of the Congregation of the Augustinians of the Assumption (a.a.), he has a dual background: that of a pioneer in religious governance and that of a builder in the higher education sector.

1. A Historical Figure: The First Black Provincial Superior
Father Kanyororo occupies a unique place in the history of the Augustinians of the Assumption in Africa.

African Leadership Pioneer: According to the annals of his congregation, he is credited with being the first African (black) to rise to the position of Provincial Superior.

The Office of Provincial: In this position, he did not simply lead a local community, but exercised general supervision and authority over all religious and works of the Assumption in the province (covering a large geographical area).

Legacy: His tenure marked a decisive turning point in the indigenization of the order, ensuring the transition from foreign missionary leadership to autonomous local governance. He thus paved the way for the current generations of Assumptionist leaders in Africa.

Key achievements

After having held high religious offices, Father Kanyororo now puts his experience at the service of Congolese youth at the University of the Assumption in Congo (UAC).

Function: He holds the strategic position of Academic Secretary General (SGAC).

He is the guarantor of the quality of teaching and scientific rigor within the institution.

He oversees the entire faculty and coordinates research programs.

3. Pedagogy and Social Engagement Vision
Beyond his titles, Father Kanyororo is recognized for his humanistic and demanding approach to education.

Mentoring and Speech: At the start of the academic year (especially for the years 2024-2025 and the 2025-2026 perspectives), he is illustrated by motivating speeches. He urges students to banish mediocrity, cultivate self-confidence, and persevere despite contextual challenges.

Integral Development: Faithful to the Assumptionist motto (Adveniat Regnum Tuum - Let your reign come), he conceives of the university not only as a place of knowledge, but as a space of social transformation. He insists on ethics, encouraging students to become agents of positive change for Congolese society.

Bio

Father Vincent Kambere has been active in several countries in West and Central Africa, including Togo and Burkina Faso. In Sokodé (Togo), he spent nearly nine years at the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption of Komah, where he distinguished himself by his availability, his pastoral dedication and his commitment to the faithful, while hosting programs on the Diocesan Radio Sainte Thérèse on religious programs such as "Word of Life" and "Lord's Day"
His time in Ouagadougou was also marked by his role in facilitating community retreats and his involvement in the awakening of Assumptionist vocations in West Africa
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo
In the DRC, Father Vincent Kambere Kaghaniyo was parish priest of the Assumptionist parish of the Divine Master in Kinshasa and led the Assumptionist Mission in Kinshasa between 2002 and 2007
Following the growth of the community, the Mission became the Kinshasa Region in 2012, and in May 2023, the Assumptionist Province of Africa proceeded with the canonical erection of the Vicariate of Kinshasa, where Father Vincent Kambere became the Provincial Vicar

• Pastoral leadership and training of young Assumptionist religious and postulants.
• Liturgical animation and management of parishes, including the parish of the Divine Master and the sub-parish of Sainte Isabelle in Kinshasa

Vincent Kambere's career illustrates a sustained and exemplary missionary commitment. Between pastoral care, formation of vocations and spiritual animation, he contributed to the expansion and development of Assumptionist missions in East Africa, West Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, embodying the spirit of Founding Father Emmanuel d 'Alzon and the values of the congregation.

His appointment took place on Saturday, March 3, 2012, by the Superior General of the Augustinians of the Assumption, Father Benoît Grière, with the consent of his Council. The named is thus the fourth African provincial of the said province. He succeeds his counterpart and travelling companion, Father Vincent Kambere Kaghaniryo

Bio

Father Yves Kaghoma was born on August 19, 1972 in Luofu, in the south of the territory of Lubero, North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He attended primary school in Vuvogho, Kanyabayonga, from 1979 to 1986. After primary school, he went to secondary school at the Kanyabayonga Institute to do Bio-Chemistry from 1986 to 1992. He then became a teacher at the same Institute in 1992 and 1994.
His religious training path
During the year 1994-1995, Yves entered the Postulat/Kindugu, in the city of Butembo. The following year, that is to say 1995-1996, he entered the Novitiate of Saint Charles Lwanga/Butembo. He made his first religious vows on August 28, 1996.
From 1996 to 1999, Yves was appointed to the Bulengera community for the first cycle of philosophy. After which, he was sent to internship at the novitiate of Saint Charles Lwanga, in the year 1999-2000. From 2000 to 2004, he was sent on a mission to Spain, while following a program of courses of the first cycle of theology at the Faculties San Dámasso in Madrid. During this period, he made his perpetual profession on September 28, 2002. From 2004 to 2006, he studied first in Dogmatic Theology at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas in Madrid, then in Training of Trainers at the "Ruah" Salamanca Center, for two years.
Yves was ordained a deacon on 18 February 2006 at Reina del Cielo Parish in Madrid. And he will be ordained a priest on July 19, 2007 in Mulo in the Diocese of Butembo-Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Monday, May 14, 2018 was decisive. The Most Reverend Father General, Benoît Grière in his Council, appointed the Reverend Father Yves Kaghoma as Provincial Superior of the Province of Africa. Upon the announcement of this appointment, the Gervais Quenard community fell into admiration and euphoria; so much so that they began to organize, by stealth, a reception in honor of the new manager of the house.


During the morning Eucharist of May 15, 2018, at which he presides, the Old Provincial - Father Protais Kabila— was keen to present to the assembly the New - Father Yves Kaghoma—, according to the traditional family spirit at the Assumption.





As a sign of support and assurance, Father Protais embraced Father Yves, while asking the assembly to pray daily for the new Provincial, so that he would have strong shoulders, able to endure the weight of the entire province.

Key achievements

For four years, Father Yves taught the course in Church History and the Theology of Vows at the Internovitiate of Arusha. For six years, he taught French, liturgy, spirituality and the social doctrine of the Church to the Philosophate of the Spiritan Fathers in Arusha-Tanzania. He was Master of Novices at Kizito House in Arusha-Tanzaie from 2008 to 2014. He was appointed Head of the Training Commission in the East Africa region from 2010 to 2014. From 2011 to 2014, he was Spiritual Father of the Carmelite Sisters' Novitiate in Arusha. From 2014 to the present (2018), he has been in charge of Formation in the Province of Africa, teaching Church History and Ecclesiology at the Internovitiate/Butembo. He also teaches the Social Doctrine of the Church and Spanish at ISEAB. Since June 2017, he has been Training Manager and first Provincial Assistant in the Province of Africa.

Bio

Born in Butembo (DRC) on June 29, 1978, Father Jean-Paul Musangania Kombi is an Assumptionist priest and religious, member of the congregation of the Augustinians of the Assumption.
Doctor of Social Communications and Professor of Universities, he combines pastoral commitment and academic expertise. A journalist by training, he worked in France within the Bayard Presse group, while serving as chaplain at the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay.
Since June 2024, he has been Provincial Superior of the Augustinians of the Assumption in Africa, where he puts his pastoral, intellectual and media experience at the service of the mission of the Church.
